Minsk to host parliamentary hearings on migration in Union State in April

MOSCOW, 2 February (BelTA) – Plans are in place to hold parliamentary hearings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia "Migration policy: practical solutions and prospects for legislative regulation” in Minsk in April, Sergei Rachkov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs, Migration Policy and Relations with Compatriots of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, Chairman of the Standing Committee on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic, told the media in Moscow on 2 February, BelTA has learned.

"It is proposed to hold the parliamentary hearings in Minsk on 7 April," Sergei Rachkov said at an expanded meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on International Affairs, Migration Policy and Relations with Compatriots with the participation of MPs of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly.

"The parliamentary hearings will discuss topical issues of international migration and the new challenges and threats that have arisen in this regard, and also develop practical recommendations for the management of migration processes and specific measures that MPs can support with regard to the migration policy," the MP said.

According to him, representatives of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and the CIS Parliamentary Assembly, heads of the migration services, leading experts, representatives of the scientific community of Belarus and Russia are invited to participate in the event.

"Migration is one of the topical issues of today's international relations. Migration crises affecting individual countries and entire regions necessitate developing new solutions to overcome them and coordinate multilateral cooperation. Today, migration is not only as one of the current challenges, but also an important driver of social and economic development. We need to search for mechanisms to optimize and control, including at the legislative level, the migration processes to increase their positive contribution in the social and economic development, taking into account the national interests and priorities," Sergei Rachkov emphasized.
