MINSK, 13 February (BelTA) - Ukraine could have avoided catastrophic processes if it had complied with the Minsk agreements, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Anatoly Glaz said in an interview to STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

Talking about the Minsk agreements, Anatoly Glaz noted that if the people and the political leadership of Ukraine had been told at the time of their signing what would happen as a result of their non-compliance, the decision would have been more unambiguous. According to the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, one should not believe speculations like Petro Poroshenko's statement that the Minsk agreements were needed to strengthen the Ukrainian army.

“The Minsk agreements played their role. They stopped the escalation of the conflict, helped people and could have been implemented as there were all the prerequisites for that. Today Ukraine could have changed on its own from within without the catastrophic and tragic processes that are happening there now. This is about the Minsk agreements," said Anatoly Glaz.

As for the activities of Soros foundations and global politics, it is quite obvious for Belarus that the country will not be left alone for a long time. Anatoly Glaz stated that sovereignty comes at a price. “There is a certain period in history when we have to stand firm and then take a new start. I think we can do it. There will also be peace in Ukraine,” the ministry's spokesman concluded.
