MFA: Belarusian Embassy in Israel will stay in Tel Aviv

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian Embassy in Israel will stay in Tel Aviv, spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told a press briefing on 7 December, BelTA informs.

Belarus will consider moving the embassy only provided there is a mutually acceptable decision on the final status of Jerusalem.

Belarus reaffirms its commitment to decisions on the principle of Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation. “We are guided by the principle that this issue should be settled though direct negotiations between the parties engaged, within the existing international legal framework and in full compliance with the UN Security Council's current resolutions and previous agreements,” Dmitry Mironchik added.

The UN Security Council will hold an emergency session to discuss the status of Jerusalem which was recognized by the USA as Israel's capital. The session is scheduled for 8 December. The decision of US President Donald Trump did not find support in many European countries. Arab countries slammed the US initiative. They fear that the decision will disrupt the peace process in the Middle East. Protests broke out in Turkey after the US president made the statement.
