Makei: Traditions of Belarusian diplomacy should continue

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – It is necessary to keep upholding and strengthening the traditions of Belarusian diplomacy, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said during a ceremony to hoist the flag of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Minsk on 20 December, BelTA has learned.

“Today is a remarkable day for our ministry. For the first time in the history of our diplomatic service, the official flag of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been hoisted on this flagstaff. It is a great honor for the entire staff of the Belarusian foreign ministry,” Vladimir Makei said addressing the employees, veterans of the diplomatic service and guests of the ceremony.

“The flag is first of all a symbol of patriotism, devotion and loyalty of each of us to the Belarusian state and people. It is a symbol of high moral and professional standards that diplomats should comply with. The flag should become a symbol of loyalty to the team, it should constantly remind us of the goals and tasks of our service, which are to protect and promote the national interests of the Republic of Belarus on the international arena. This is what we are expected to do by our president, the government and the public. We should meet these expectations and the trust in us on the part of the state and the society. Each of us can live up to these expectations by demonstrating our professionalism, responsible and conscientious work and an innovative mindset,” Vladimir Makei said.

He is convinced that only this approach will secure an equitable integration of Belarus into the global political, economic, scientific, cultural and information space, protection of rights, freedoms and legal interests of the state and its citizens outside the country. “This is the only way to keep strengthening and promoting the traditions of Belarusian diplomacy,” the minister underlined.
