Makei meets with German foreign minister

MINSK, 21 October (BelTA) – Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in Berlin on 21 October, BelTA learned from the the Belarusian MFA's Twitter account.

Following the negotiations the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that Germany is an important partner in the European Union for Belarus. The parties discussed the bilateral relations and the situation in the region.

After the talks, Vladimir Makei welcomed Germany's growing interest in Belarus. “We hope that Belarus will take its rightful place in the new German and European Eastern policy," the minister said.

The parties discussed steps to make better use of the significant potential of cooperation between Belarus and Germany and to make the relations strategic.

On its website the German Foreign Ministry reported that the parties talked about bilateral relations, joint actions in Eastern Ukraine and the future of the Eastern Partnership. “Belarus also undertakes responsibility for peace and stability in the region. This is especially evident in the constant support of the Minsk process. Belarus has become an important partner in resolving international conflicts,” Heiko Maas said.

Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei is on a working visit in Germany. The minister has a busy two-day program of meetings and events in Berlin.
