Makei, Lavrov confirm interest in advancing integration processes

MOSCOW, 27 May (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov confirmed the interest of the two countries in advancing integration processes during negotiations in Moscow on 27 May, BelTA learned from the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs after the talks.

During the negotiations the sides discussed in detail many aspects of global and regional cooperation, security problems, and matters of current interest in the bilateral relations. “We've confirmed the interest of our countries in advancing integration processes in the Eurasian Economic Union, in taking interaction in the CIS space, in the Collective Security Treaty Organization to the next level,” Vladimir Makei said.

According to Vladimir Makei, the sides also discussed cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Organization, the OSCE, and other international organizations. “We will continue coordinating approaches to work in these multilateral formats and other ones,” Vladimir Makei stressed. “We have absolutely no differences of opinion and problems. We share views on many topical problems, which unfortunately do not contribute to stronger security these days but contrariwise lead to greater confrontation.”

The sides paid close attention to matters of ensuring regional and international security. “We've agreed to continue the practice of discussing these matters on a permanent basis taking into account the constant growth of tensions and the emerging complicated situation in world affairs,” Vladimir Makei added.
