Makei: Belarus views no country as an enemy

MINSK, 23 November (BelTA) – Belarus views no one as an enemy, Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“Today we hear and see some negative statements regarding Belarus. There have also been some concrete actions,” Vladimir Makei said. “This is not our policy. We do not view anyone as an enemy or an opponent. We view all countries, especially our neighbors, as partners that we are destined to live with and that, to cite the Belarusian president, are given to us by God,” he added.

Belarus is interested in the development of trade, economic, political, and humanitarian relations in every possible way with all countries, primarily with its neighbors and, being located in Europe, with European partners.

“We have a lot in common: common history, traditions, culture. This dates back to the distant past, and we should not forget this. We are also geographically close. This is why, whether we want this or not, we should carefully think about our future: whether we will give in to emotions of a boxing ring or will realize the necessity of close, mutually beneficial cooperation. Not just a necessity – but impossibility to live without this cooperation,” Vladimir Makei noted.
