Makei: Belarus is ready for dialogue on security

MINSK, 4 December (BelTA) – Belarus is ready for a constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue on enhancing the efficiency of proliferation control and confidence- and security-building measures, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said during an online meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council on 3 December, BelTA has learned.

In connection with the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, Vladimir Makei urged to remember the tragic lessons of the past, to fight against the glorification of Nazism and neo-Nazism in the OSCE. “In December 1945, Albert Einstein said: “The war is won, but the peace is not.” Of course, back then he could not even imagine that the path to peace would be so thorny,” the minister of foreign affairs said.

“The Helsinki Process gave us a dream, but its goals have not been achieved yet. We must give the world another chance by resuming international dialogue on security issues in order to build a genuine Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian security community without dividing lines,” the minister said.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, for the first time, the Ministerial Council is held via video teleconferencing. It will continue on 4 December and will end with the adoption of final documents. It is organized by Albania's OSCE Chairmanship. Sweden will take over as OSCE Chair in 2021.

The OSCE stands for the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. With 57 States from Europe, Central Asia and North America, the OSCE is the world's largest regional security organization. The OSCE is a forum for political dialogue on a wide range of security issues, including conflict prevention, crisis management and post-conflict rehabilitation.
