Makei, Ashton discuss international security problems

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with the former European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the head of the Global Europe program in the Wilson Center (Washington, USA) Catherine Ashton in Minsk on 7 October, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Makei and Catherine Ashton discussed international security problems and the situation in the region, topical aspects of Belarus-UK relations, including in view of the UK's exit from the European Union. The sides spoke at length about prospects of stepping up cooperation in higher education and in interaction between Belarusian and British universities.

Catherine Ashton has been the chancellor in Warwick University since 2017. The university is in UK's top 10 universities. Catherine Ashton came to Minsk to participate in the forum “European security: Stepping back from the brink”, which was organized by the research and enlightenment institution Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations.
