Lebedev: Termination of Russian-Ukrainian treaty more detrimental to Ukraine than to Russia

MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) – The termination of the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia will be more detrimental to Ukrainians than to Russians, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told reporters on 18 September, BelTA has learned.

“I was also sorry to hear this news about the termination of the treaty between Ukraine and Russia. I have read many comments. The majority of them suggest that the termination of the treaty with Russia will hurt Ukrainian nationals harder than it will hurt Russians. I share this view. It is not in the interests of Russia, Ukraine or other Commonwealth member states. The CIS and I, the Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, regret about this step. Nevertheless, we hope that Ukraine will stay with the CIS. We have not received any notifications on Ukraine's withdrawal from the CIS and we hope that we will not receive them,” Sergei Lebedev said.
