MOSCOW, 17 May (BelTA) – The OSCE continues to degenerate because of the unwillingness of NATO members to tone down their ambitions, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov told journalists following his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Sergei Aleinik, BelTA has learned.

Speaking about the mutual support of the two countries on international platforms, the Russian foreign minister highlighted the important, positive and active role of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations that was put together some time ago.

Sergey Lavrov noted that the parties “exchanged views on the deplorable situation in the OSCE that cannot leave the downward path due to the unwillingness of NATO members to moderate and tone down their ambitions”. According to Sergey Lavrov, another reason for this degradation is the desire of NATO countries to call the shots everywhere and the unwillingness to return to a respectful, full-fledged dialogue. “This is a dead end,” the Russian diplomat is convinced.
