MOSCOW, 9 September (BelTA) – Rumors of possible unification in one or another form of Belarus and Russia following the forthcoming visit of Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Moscow are sheer nonsense, Press Secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov has said, BelTA has learned.
“Of course, no mergers, takeovers or anything of this kind will follow the visit,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters. “This is absolute nonsense,” he added.
He commented on the rumors about the establishment of a single emission center of the two countries. “This is a matter of the will of the two states. No one has expressed this will yet,” the spokesman said answering a respective question. “I have no information that this matter was discussed,” he noted.
Speaking about the agenda of the forthcoming talks between the two heads of state, Dmitry Peskov recalled that the presidents of Belarus and Russia always discuss trade and economic cooperation, supplies of hydrocarbons, integration within the framework of various organizations, ongoing developments on the Eurasian continent, and regional conflicts. "The visit is important, especially in view of the processes Belarus is going through,” he stressed.
