Korzh: Belarus committed to promoting peace, good neighborliness

GOMEL, 4 March (BelTA) – Belarus seeks to promote peace, tolerance and good neighborly relations, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives Ivan Korzh told BelTA commenting on the topics discussed during the Big Conversation with the President on 1 March.

“Such a policy of Belarus is of great importance amidst today's uneasy and turbulent world that is experiencing a great number of shocks. As Alexander Lukashenko emphasized, this policy is solely meant to maintain security and peace on our planet,” the MP noted. Ivan Korzh underlined that Belarus becomes a platform for peaceful initiatives increasingly often.

The president made a point saying that Belarusians are against any manifestations of aggression, be it a military aggression or information attacks. However, new hotspots are emerging, including along the perimeter of our border. The head of state identifies very clearly the role of our country in maintaining security not only in Europe, but also on the international scale. Belarus often puts forward meaningful proposals and various initiatives in order to normalize the situation. The country's stance on one or another event can be heard more and more often on the international arena and this position is taken on board, he added.

Ivan Korzh believes that the parliament also has a role to play here. “MPs represent Belarus and its position on security, including information security, in various international organizations – the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Interparliamentary Union, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and others,” he explained. The foreign policy is also high on the agenda of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. According to Ivan Korzh, Belarusian MPs attended key international forums dedicated to security matters, like the Counter-terrorism Conference in Berlin and the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum in Washington that gathered representatives of over 80 countries.
