Kochanova: Venezuela has always been close to Belarus in spirit

MINSK, 7 October (BelTA) - Venezuela has always been close to us in spirit, Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Venezuela president's special envoy Adan Chavez Frias in Minsk on 7 October, BelTA has learned.

"I am sincerely happy to welcome you to the Council of the Republic. I welcome you as friends. Venezuela has always been close to us in spirit, and the key to this were the good relations between our presidents Aleksandr Lukashenko and Hugo Chavez. I am sure that your visit will give a new impetus to the development of good relations between our countries and peoples," Natalya Kochanova said. “In today's world, in these difficult conditions, mutual support of our countries in the international arena is very important. Belarus and Venezuela do not accept interference in their internal affairs, the imposition of sanctions and attempts to destabilize the internal situation in our countries."

The speaker stressed that the relations between Belarus and Venezuela rely on a solid foundation. "We will do everything to ensure that they continue to develop very fruitfully," she said. “Today you met with the Belarusian president. After that, the head of state held a meeting with the economic bloc where he instructed to not only resume good relations in various areas but take them even further. The head of state has already instructed to prepare visits and meetings of our presidents," she said.

The chairperson of the Council of the Republic stressed that MPs should play an important role in the development of bilateral relations. “We have high hopes that the parliamentary group of friendship between Belarus and Venezuela will resume its work. Today our counties, as it has always been, should stand together. Together we can counteract all the challenges and threats against us. In 2017, during the visit of the president of Venezuela to our country, we spoke about color revolutions which were taking place across the globe. Today we can feel interference in the internal affairs of our country from outside, attempts to destabilize the situation, to impose sanctions on our enterprises. This, however, will all be unsuccessful. We have withstood, both our people and our president. In the future we will cooperate with the countries that are willing to cooperate with us. Once again I would like to thank you for your visit to our country. I want to assure you of our sincere friendship, good attitude and hope that the relationship between our countries will develop productively in all the areas. I look forward to fruitful cooperation between the MPs of our countries,” she said.

“It is a great honor for us to meet with representatives of the Belarusian Parliament. This morning we had a very important meeting with the president of Belarus. The purpose of my visit as well as of the delegation that is accompanying me is, first of all, to give new impetus to our relations and to do it as quickly as possible. I conveyed to Aleksandr Lukashenko the warmest greetings from Nicolas Maduro and expressed my readiness to do everything necessary to give fresh impetus to our relations,” Adan Chavez Frias said.
