Kochanova honored by CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) - Speaker of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova has been awarded the Order of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly "Commonwealth" for services to the Assembly, friendship between the peoples of the CIS countries, BelTA has learned.

The awards ceremony took place on the sidelines of the CIS IPA Council meeting in Bishkek.

The Order “Commonwealth” is the highest award of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, approved at the meeting of the CIS IPA Council on 28 February 1998. The Order is the highest form of encouragement for citizens and organizations of the CIS member states, other states and stateless persons and is awarded for services to peoples in various fields of activity, peace and friendship, and economic ties between states.

Belarus' parliamentary delegation led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova is taking part in the events of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on 16-17 November. The CIS IPA Council is set to discuss topical issues on the agenda, take stock of the activities carried out in 2023, and provide information on the observance of of election campaigns in the CIS. The CIS IPA Standing Commissions on Political Affairs and International Cooperation and on Social Policy and Human Rights as well as the CIS Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will hold meetings on the same day. The Belarusian delegation will take part in the international conference dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan.

The 56th plenary session of the CIS IPA will take place on 17 November. Special attention will be paid to the role of the Russian language as a language of interethnic communication in the CIS. The MPs also plan to consider a number of model bills in ecology, security and law. The Belarusian parliamentary delegation will take part in an international conference to mark the 95th birthday of Chinghiz Aitmatov.
