MINSK, 21 January (BelTA) - There will be more and more common ground in the friendly relations between Belarus and Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as he met with Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Belarus Nasirjan Yusupov in Minsk on 21 January, BelTA has learned.
Natalya Kochanova noted that Belarus and Uzbekistan have historically developed good fraternal relations, which are supported by the presidents of the two countries. “This gives confidence today that the friendly relations between the peoples, parliaments and governments will continue too be developed and more common ground will be found. This will allow both Belarus and also Uzbekistan to grow successfully,” the speaker of the upper house said.
The speaker recalled that Belarus has always viewed Uzbekistan as a key strategic partner in Central Asia. Bilateral relations reached a brand new level after the Belarusian and Uzbek leaders exchanged visits in 2018 and 2019 respectively. The intergovernmental action plan has been updated over these two years. Almost 30% of the events have already been completed.
Trade and economic relations are gaining momentum, bilateral trade is growing. In 2019, the first forum of the regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan was held in Minsk. Practice has shown that this form of cooperation is very important for both countries. Industrial cooperation is of particular interest. “The prospects for setting up joint manufactures and enterprises are very important for us," said Natalya Kochanova.
The elections to the lower house of Parliament of Uzbekistan took place in December 2019. The new speakers have been elected. The committees of the upper house have been formed. The government of Uzbekistan has resigned in accordance with the country's Constitution. In 2019 the parliamentary elections took place in Belarus. “We will continue the noble traditions started by the previous speakers of the parliaments. We will work to strengthen bilateral relations in every area of mutual interest,” the speaker stressed.
