Japan interested in looking for promising avenues of cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei met with Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan Kentaro Sonoura on 22 June. The Japanese government official is in Minsk in order to participate in the 2nd European Games events, the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

Vladimir Makei and Kentaro Sonoura expressed readiness to step up interaction in order to better tap into the potential of Belarus-Japan cooperation in political, humanitarian, and economic spheres.

Vladimir Makei thanked the Japanese side for helping Belarus minimize consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident over the course of many years. Kentaro Sonoura confirmed the readiness of the Japanese side to look for promising avenues of cooperation with Belarus. He remarked that Japan highly appreciates the support Belarus provided after the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident.
