Issues in Belarus-EU visa facilitation talks resolved

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Belarus and the EU have resolved complex issues in the visa facilitation negotiations, Anatoly Glaz, Head of the Information and Digital Diplomacy Office, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the media, BelTA has learned.

“From the very beginning we have been interested and remain interested in signing it [visa facilitation agreement]. Thanks to serious joint work with the European side, we have resolved a number of difficult matters. Our citizens will still be able to apply to the embassies of the EU countries for visas, not only visa centers. We have agreed on the provisions that are acceptable to everyone,” Anatoly Glaz said.

“The fact that some have been making attempts recently to turn the negotiation process, which is almost complete, into some kind of a zero-sum game is another story,” the spokesman said.

According to him, once the agreement is signed, the number of visas issued by the EU countries in Belarus will even decrease. “More multi-entry and long-term visas will be issued. Only one out of 28 EU member states does not agree on the terms,” Anatoly Glaz said.

Anatoly Glaz added that the negotiations on the agreement still continue.
