MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – Belarus determines its domestic and foreign political agenda itself, Chairman of the Education, Culture and Science Commission of the House of Representatives Igor Marzalyuk told the media, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus determines its foreign political and domestic agenda itself. All decisions regarding our country are made in Minsk, not Brussels or Moscow. Belarus, a country in the center of Europe, wants to have good relations with Russia, China, the rest of the world,” Igor Marzalyuk said.

Sovereignty, independence and further development of the country were among the most important issues outlined in the Belarusian president's Annual State of the Nation Address, the MP said. The address was momentous in all the areas, including the celebration of 25 years since the adoption of the Constitution of Belarus. “25 years of real sovereignty,” Igor Marzalyuk said.

In his address, the president touched on foreign policy priorities. For example, the president said that the country aims to take an active part in the integration associations on the post-Soviet territory. Belarus has consistently pursued the policy it started 20 years ago to develop the Union State with Russia. Among the priorities Aleksandr Lukashenko highlighted cooperation in the CIS, noting that for many of its member countries the CIS is actually the only platform not only for trade but also for political dialogue.

A decision was taken not long ago to adjust the CIS to the new realities. The work on this is in progress, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev noted. According to him, the interaction between the CIS countries meets the interests of each of its member states. The CIS Executive Committee, in turn, feels the support of Belarus in integration activities. The CIS is headquartered in Minsk which is considered an informal capital of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
