Importance of CSTO's contribution to efforts to prevent distortion of historical truth highlighted

MOSCOW, 8 May (BelTA) – It is particularly important now to increase the contribution of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to te efforts to counter the attempts to distort the historical truth about the Second World War, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said in a message of greetings sent to the heads of state and government of the CSTO member states on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov told BelTA.

According to the CSTO secretary general, Victory Day is dear to all as a symbol of valor of the defenders of the Fatherland, their cohesion and the strength of the people's spirit. This great holiday, shared by all, symbolizes the unity of people in the face of the fascism threat, their selfless feat on the battlefields and selfless labor in the rear. “We are proud of our fathers and grandfathers who cleared the world from fascism and cherish the memory of their feat. We remember those who were killed in battles, and those who forged Victory in the rear by their heroic labor,” he stressed.

Stanislav Zas noted that this year's Victory Day celebrations are taking place at a time when the humanity has faced a coronavirus pandemic and growing attempts to undermine the foundations of the world order laid down 75 years ago by the victorious states to help future generations avoid wars. “In these circumstances, it is particularly important to increase the contribution of the Collective Security Treaty Organization to the efforts to counter the attempts to distort the historical truth about the Second World War and to substitute the international law with some walk-in rules of international communication,” the message of greetings reads. “Preserving the memory of the feat of our peoples, we consider it our sacred duty to defend the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War, to stop the attempts to rewrite the history and heroize fascism,” he added.

The CSTO secretary general noted that the peoples and states, faithful to this memory, united in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, have been working tirelessly to preserve peace and stability, to counter the machinations of those who, in their selfish interests, are trying to undermine the foundations of a stable world order, to replace the universally accepted norms and principles of international law with their own rules of the game, and to destroy the peace-supporting legal framework.

“I am confident that thanks to the joint actions of our peoples and states-members of the CSTO we will put a stop to the dangerous trends in the world, strengthen common security, make a significant contribution to the preservation of peace and strengthening international security,” Stanislav Zas noted.

“Citizens of the CSTO member states will forever remember those who have not returned from the battlefields, defended the freedom and independence of their homeland,” Stanislav Zas believes. "We pay tribute to the veterans and consider it our sacred duty to honor the memory of the Great Victory.

Stanislav Zas extends greetings on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory to the ministers of foreign affairs, defense ministers and secretaries of the security councils of the CSTO member states.
