
MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Coordination of efforts of the ministries of foreign affairs of the CIS states in the international arena has never been more important, BelTA learned from Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Sergei Lebedev.
Sergei Lebedev said: “Permanent plenipotentiary representatives of the CIS states gathered in Minsk today in order to discuss results of the session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers that took place in Samarkand not so long ago. It is the first meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs this year. I have to say it was rather productive. Ten items on the agenda were discussed. Important and interesting ones. First of all, those are matters concerning interaction of the ministries of foreign affairs of the CIS countries. It is of burning interest today. All the speakers mentioned that coordination of activities of our ministries of international affairs in the international arena has never been more important. It is particularly important to do it within the framework of international organizations.”
A regular session of the council of permanent plenipotentiary representatives of the CIS member states in charter bodies and other bodies of the Commonwealth of Independent States took place in Minsk. Its participants summed up results of the session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers that took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on 14 April and sketched out tasks for realizing the documents passed by the session and the agreements reached at the session.
Members of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers discussed ten items, including the organization of CIS sport competitions for children with disabilities, the fulfillment of the plan on multilevel consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs and the action program on stepping up partnership between the ministries of foreign affairs in 2022, the choice of CIS sport capital cities for the next two years and the base organization for training and advanced training of reporters.
Apart from that, the council of permanent plenipotentiary representatives discussed results of realization of events dedicated to the Year of Popular Art and Cultural Legacy in the Commonwealth of Independent States.
