NUCLEAR POWER IN BELARUS AND WORLDWIDE
MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The relations between Belarus and the European Union should not be poisoned by sanctions, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto told reporters following his meeting with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei on 3 March, BelTA has learned.
According to Peter Szijjarto, Hungary seeks to strengthen ties between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union. Belarus is viewed as a kind of bridge between the two, in particular during its presidency in the EAEU.
“Belarus is an important partner of the European Union. Partnership is based on a dialogue, not sanctions, therefore we will try to make sure the relations between the European Union and Belarus are not poisoned by sanctions,” the minister said.
He noted that Hungary calls on the European Union agencies to ratify the visa facilitation and readmission agreements with Belarus by June. “We believe that it took too long to sign these agreements. We also believe that it is not right that during the transition period Belarusian nationals have to pay more for the Schengen visa,” Peter Szijjarto said.
Taking stock of the Belarus-Hungary relations, the minister noted that they are based on mutual trust and respect. “It is not our business to assess domestic political developments in Belarus. We always understand and respect decisions of the Belarusian nation. Our goal is to keep promoting bilateral relations,” he said.
