Hendrik Daems elected new PACE president

MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – The head of the Belgian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Hendrik Daems was elected new PACE president, reads the official Twitter account of the organization.

Hendrik Daems was the only candidate for the post, TASS reported. He will succeed Liliane Maury Pasquier as PACE head.

In his inaugural address, the newly elected president said that the connection between human rights and the environment will be a priority for him. He also called for the development of a new climate protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights.

The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe began on 27 January in Strasbourg and will last until 31 January.
