Gomel Oblast, Samara Oblast sign agreement on cooperation at Belarus-Russia Forum of Regions

GOMEL, 18 July (BelTA) – An agreement between the Gomel Oblast Council of Deputies and the Samara Regional Duma on cooperation and development of ties was signed at the 6th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in St Petersburg on 17 July, BelTA learned from head of the department of foreign economic ties of the economy committee of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Alevtina Saranchuk.

The document was signed by Chairperson of the Gomel Oblast Council of Deputies Ekaterina Zenkevich and Chairman of the Samara Regional Duma Gennady Kotelnikov at the meeting of the inter-parliamentary commission on interregional cooperation of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

The agreement envisages the development and expansion of ties between representative bodies, and strengthening of cooperation in lawmaking and parliamentary activities. The document focuses on such issues as the provision of human rights and freedoms, consolidation of legality and law enforcement, social protection of the population, and nature conservation. Cooperation envisages the exchange of texts of legal acts, draft bills, analytical, methodical and other materials, development of direct contacts between lawmakers, standing committees and commissions, organization of joint conferences, seminars, meetings, consultations, and also sharing of the best practices.

Chairperson of the Gomel District Executive Committee Elena Aleksina spoke at the section of the forum on the development of cooperation between regions, districts and cities of Belarus and Russia as a tool to strengthen the Union State. She provided information on the cooperation of the region with Russian subjects, the implementation of joint projects in various sectors, and voiced proposals to step up bilateral cooperation.

Gomel Oblast plans to conclude export contracts worth $93 million. Some 50 organizations of the region are expected to sign documents with Russian partners. The total number of contracts will exceed 160.
