Georgian ambassador sees no political discord in relations with Belarus

MINSK, 22 May (BelTA) – There are no differences of opinion about the main political matters in relations between Belarus and Georgia. The statement was made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Belarus Valeri Kvaratskhelia at a press conference on 22 May, BelTA has learned. The press conference was timed to Georgia Independence Day.

The Georgian side appreciates Belarus' support. Mutual understanding between the states is an important factor for further advancement of cooperation.

The ambassador noted that there had been various periods of relations in the past. “Right after the collapse of the Soviet Union there was a period of time when we virtually didn't talk to each other – neither good or bad things. Then our communication began. The embassy in Minsk was opened and then the embassy in Tbilisi. I can now say with satisfaction that our relations advance vigorously, in a good groove,” Valeri Kvaratskhelia stressed.

In his opinion, it is likely that Georgia enjoys the most polished and best relations with Belarus out of all the former Soviet republics. “We don't have any political differences of opinion. We work virtually on all matters in a coordinated fashion. Economic, cultural, and humanitarian relations advance. Last year Belarusian Culture Days took place in Georgia and Georgian Culture Days took place in Belarus,” he continued.

“We are very interesting countries in each other's eyes,” the diplomat concluded.
