Friendship of Belarus, Tajikistan leaders seen as good foundation for comprehensive cooperation

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The friendship between the leaders of Belarus and Tajikistan is a good foundation for comprehensive cooperation between the two states, newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Tajikistan Viktor Denisenko told the media on 20 September, BelTA has learned.

The new head of the diplomatic mission emphasized the importance of good contacts between the presidents of the two countries.

“Tajikistan is a country friendly to us. We share common approaches in respect to the international agenda, the development of bilateral relations. The main priority in diplomacy is economic diplomacy. There are about 20 dealers of Belarusian producers in Tajikistan. The matter pertains to the assembly of tractors, Bobruiskagromash and Gomselmash machinery. Plans are also in place to work on joint projects in dairy industry,” Viktor Denisenko said.

According to the Ambassador, the two countries have good potential for further development of mutual cooperation.

As a rule, Belarus' ambassador to Tajikistan is accredited in Afghanistan on concurrency. That is why Victor Denisenko spoke about the relations in this area, as well. “We have a certain mechanism of cooperation with Afghanistan. We conducted a number of events in this country in the trilateral format: Belarus-Tajikistan-Afghanistan. This format yielded certain results,” he said.

“Last year the trade [with Afghanistan] exceeded $181 million and these are good figures. I think we need to keep such a level,” the diplomat believes.

He stressed at the same time a complicated internal political situation in Afghanistan at present. “We will be looking for a mechanism which will be the most acceptable for both us and Afghanistan. We hope the situation in Afghanistan will stabilize,” Viktor Denisenko said.
