MINSK, 12 December (BelTA) – Former CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha gave his take on the military and political situation near the CSTO borders in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA informs.

“I assess the military and political situation near the CSTO borders as very alarming. Starting from the 1940s, Europe has been hatching plans to crush the Soviet Union, and then Russia and Belarus. It is now trying to bring these plans to fruition and is taking practical steps to achieve it. This includes the military buildup, including the transfer of military units from the United States to the territory of Poland, the creation of groups of forces on the borders with Belarus and Russia, the provocative actions of the Ukrainian leadership. We understand that it is not Zelensky who does everything, his sponsors do it, and he only implements these plans. I view the incident with the missile in Poland as an attempt to draw NATO into a war with Russia and thus to create conditions for suppression of both Russia and Belarus,” Nikolai Bordyuzha said.

He spoke highly of the role and contribution of Belarus to the CSTO. “Belarus is one of the most active countries in the CSTO systems. It puts forward interesting initiatives, it is willing to help and support, it conducts exercises. Belarus always supports its allies unconditionally. The country's priorities during the CSTO chairmanship confirm that Belarus wants to see the CSTO an efficient structure with the necessary potential to defend the national security of the participating states. I am sure that all goals and objectives will be fulfilled,” the former CSTO secretary general said.
