MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) - The possibility of holding a high-level event in Belarus to mark the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership initiative is in the works now, Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei told the media, BelTA has learned.
“We have discussed the matter with European partners. The point is to show that the Eastern Partnership is not directed against third countries that are not involved in this initiative, to show that the Eastern Partnership is a pragmatic, people-oriented project, to show that this partnership aims to promote rapprochement in our region. We proposed to our partners to discuss the possibility of holding a high-level event in one of the EaP countries, including Belarus,” the minister said.
Vladimir Makei stressed that no projects and initiatives within the framework of the Eastern Partnership should be aimed at whipping up confrontation but rather should contribute to rapprochement. It was with this idea in mind that Belarus has made a number of initiatives that have been endorsed by the head of state.
