FM: Belarus stays committed to equal dialogue, against diktat, pressure

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) - Belarus absolutely rejects diktat and pressure, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei said as he addressed the 6th meeting of ministers of foreign affairs of the member states of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Nur-Sultan on 12 October, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus has always proceeded from the need to resolve all disputes and conflicts by diplomatic means, has always stayed committed to equal dialogue, but it absolutely does not accept diktat and pressure,” the minister said.

“Amid the increasing confrontation, the words of legendary Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Gromyko are especially relevant today: “Ten years of negotiations is better than one day of war.” The modern world is too fragile and interdependent to build one's welfare at the expense of others,” Vladimir Makei said.

He is convinced that given the shift of the focus of global politics and economy to Asia, the dynamic development of transcontinental trade and economic relations, pan-Eurasian infrastructure and logistics projects, further expansion of dialogue and cooperation between the CICA states and raising the status of this forum in the international arena becomes more relevant than ever.
