Elections declared valid in all Minsk constituencies

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The parliamentary elections in Belarus have been declared valid across all the constituencies of Minsk, as the 50% turnout requirement was met in all of them, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Minsk City Election Commission Dmitry Shevtsov.

“As of 18:00, some 58.76% of registered voters cast their votes in Minsk. Elections are considered valid in all the constituencies. Some polling stations closed at 17:00,” Dmitry Shevtsov said.

He noted that there is still a lot of work ahead. “We are closing polling stations at 20:00. After that counting will begin. If observers have complaints or appeals, we will consider them today late at night and tomorrow. The final protocols will be discussed. All in all, the elections are proceeding well. Even some occasional incidents will not question the smooth and professional work of our precinct election commissions. Members of the Minsk City Election Commission and I have been inspecting polling stations all this time and we are happy with the way precinct election commissions do their job,” Dmitry Shevtsov said.

114 candidates are running for 20 seats in Minsk.
