EAEU video summit due on 14 April 2020

MOSCOW, 10 April (BelTA) – The heads of state of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states are set to hold talks via a video conference on 14 April, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Mikhail Myasnikovich said following a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council held via videoconferencing on 10 April, BelTA has learned.

“The working meeting is planned for 14 April. It will also be held via a video conference,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The unscheduled talks of the EAEU heads of state were initiated by Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko as the leader of the country currently presiding over the EAEU bodies. He put forward the proposal during his recent phone conversation with Armenia Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed that there are important issues that should be addressed at the highest level.

Mikhail Myasnikovich also noted that work is also underway to organize a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council due on 19 May. He admitted that the session might also be held via videoconferencing. “We have a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council ahead of us. We are planning to hold it on 19 May,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. “I hope that the pandemic will pass soon. Since we are unable to organize a face-to-face meeting, I believe, the heads of state will agree to talk via a video conference to discuss the urgent matters,” he added.
