ASTANA, 8 November (BelTA) – A joint session of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council, the CSTO Defense Ministers Council and the CSTO Committee of Security Councils' Secretaries has taken place in Astana, BelTA has learned.
The ministers and the security councils' secretaries arrived at the Palace of Independence in Astana in the morning of 8 November. They had an opportunity to have an informal conversation behind the scenes and to compare notes on the most topical issues of the agenda. The official part of the event was preceded by a joint photo opportunity. The session was held behind closed doors.
The participants of the session discussed topical issues of international and regional security and coordination of activities of the CSTO member states on the international arena. The parties adopted over twenty documents - decisions and draft decisions that are to be discussed by the heads of state in the second half of the day.
The documents include a draft declaration of the CSTO Collective Security Council, a statement of the leaders of the CSTO member states on coordinated measures against individuals who participated in armed conflicts on the side of international terrorist organizations, decisions on the legalization of an observer status with the CSTO and a partner status at the organization as well as a decision on the status of the crisis response center of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a decision on the composition of military contingents and the formation of special forces of the CSTO collective rapid response forces. The parties also adopted a draft decision of the Collective Security Council on developing a collective system to counter illegal migration through 2025. They also discussed current activities of the organization and updated several documents.
The chairmanship in the abovementioned CSTO agencies was assumed by Kyrgyzstan in a solemn ceremony.More about Politics
