CSTO Parliamentary Assembly Council passes draft model law on security of major sport events

MOSCOW, 30 October (BelTA) – The Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization passed a draft model law on the security of major international and sport events in Moscow on 30 October, BelTA learned from Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko after the session.

The MP said: “It is very important for Belarus because next year we are going to host the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 and an ice hockey world championship in 2021. Creating secure and comfortable conditions is very important. It is a matter of the country's image.”

The document was also approved at a plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on 30 October.

Vladimir Andreichenko noted that Belarus actively uses all the model laws, all the novelties passed by the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly in its national laws.

Talking about priorities in the work of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, Vladimir Andreichenko mentioned the development of model legislation, which will contribute to the harmonization of national laws on fighting common military threats. “This is why today we've primarily focused on three model laws – on national security, on the security of critical installations, and on counteracting terrorism,” he said.

According to the source, the coordination of work of parliamentary delegations of the CSTO member states in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly was also discussed.

A Belarusian parliament delegation led by Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko is in Moscow today, taking part in CSTO Parliamentary Assembly events.
