CSTO expresses deep concern about continuing degradation of international security system

MOSCOW, 10 June (BelTA) – The member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) expressed deep concern about the continuing degradation of the international security system, runs the statement of the CSTO ministers of foreign affairs on international security, which was adopted following the meeting of the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council in Yerevan on 10 June, BelTA has learned.

“We, the CSTO member states, express deep concern with the continuing degradation of the international security system,” the document states. “We consider it important to reaffirm our position on the assertion and strict observance of the principle of equal and indivisible security, enshrined, in particular, at the highest level in a number of documents of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, including the 1999 Charter for European Security and the Astana Commemorative Declaration of the OSCE Summit in 2010. The principle is the inextricable link between the security of each state and the security of all other states and the inadmissibility of strengthening the security of some states at the expense of the security of others. It is important to ensure its uniform interpretation among all OSCE participating states.”

“We emphasize that, in accordance with the above-mentioned documents, no single state, group of states or organization can be given primary responsibility for the maintenance of peace and stability. We are in favor of further strengthening the primary role of the UN Security Council in the maintenance of international peace and security entrusted to it by the UN Charter,” CSTO foreign ministers said.

“CSTO member states call for building a world free of wars and conflicts, violence and pressure, for the development of comprehensive, equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, for achieving comprehensive, sustainable and cooperative security, taking into account the interests of all states and peoples,” the statement reads.
