Contact group on Ukraine in session in Minsk

MINSK, 4 April (BelTA) – Another meeting of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east has begun in Minsk, representatives of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told BelTA.

A meeting of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east is in progress in Minsk, BelTA has been told.

The previous meeting of the trilateral contact group on resolving the situation in Ukraine's east took place on 14 March. Participants of the meeting noted a considerable decrease in ceasefire violations and a major decrease in the number of civilian casualties.

Mobile service from the mobile carrier Vodafone Ukraine was high on the agenda of the session of the subgroup on economic affairs. A Vodafone Ukraine Company representative took part in the session. The subgroup continued discussing the necessary practical steps for restoring and enabling communications in several parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast. Apart from that, the subgroup continued discussing water supply, the payment of debts to former Ukrainian Railways employees in Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast, and the return of the railway cars, which are now outside the territory controlled by the Ukrainian government.

The subgroup on humanitarian affairs discussed the exchange of prisoners of war.

The subgroup on political affairs exchanged opinions about the future implementation of the so-called Steinmeier formula, about amnesty, municipal elections, and ways to secure a special status for several parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast in line with the Minsk agreements.
