MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) - The CIS will deploy a mission to observe the Belarus presidential election, Maria Gutsalo, an adviser to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, told BelTA.
“The CIS Executive Committee has received an invitation from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take part in the monitoring of the presidential election. Now we are forming the mission. We have sent out invitations to the CIS countries requesting be nominate their representatives to the CIS observation mission. The CIS Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives agreed on the candidacy of the head of the mission at a meeting on 21 July. The CIS Executive Committee proposed Sergei Lebedev to the post,” Maria Gutsalo said.
According to her, the CIS Executive Committee will send a letter to the Central Election Commission with a request to accredit observers from the CIS mission. “We plan that CIS observers will work in all regions of the country. On the election day, the observers will be present at the polling stations from the moment they open until the counting of votes is completed. The mission will release its findings on the results of the monitoring of the election campaign in Belarus on 10 August,” Maria Gutsalo informed
The presidential election in Belarus will be held on 9 August. The Central Election Commission has registered five presidential candidates on 14 July.
