MINSK, 29 January (BelTA) – The CIS observers have not been invited to monitor the presidential elections in Ukraine due on 31 March, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev told the media ahead of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council meeting at the CIS Executive Committee on 29 January, BelTA has learned.
"Kiev declined to participate in the CIS election observation missions, and therefore we have not received any invitations to observe the presidential campaign in Ukraine," Sergei Lebedev said.
Sergei Lebedev highlighted that the interaction between the CIS Executive Committee and Ukraine is maintained via its diplomatic mission in Minsk. “We maintain contacts with representatives of the Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk,” Sergei Lebedev said.
