CIS mission to start observing Russian State Duma elections in late August

MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) – In late August the CIS mission will start observing the elections to the Russian State Duma, Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergei Lebedev told the media as he took part in the session of the CIS Plenipotentiaries Council on 27 July, BelTA has learned.

“We will traditionally set up a mission to observe the elections in Russia. We have already received an invitation from Russia. I have already sent letters to all CIS countries with a request to send observers to the CIS mission,” said Sergei Lebedev.

According to him, the plenipotentiaries need to approve the chairman of the mission. “The proposed candidate is Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Ilhom Nematov. I hope that this candidacy will be approved, and in agreement with the Russian side the CIS election observation mission will be formed. We hope that the mission will start its work in Russia in late August,” said the chairman of the CIS Executive Committee.

Russian State Duma elections are scheduled for 19 September.
