CIS diplomats discuss foreign policy plans

MINSK, 14 December (BelTA) – Ministerial consultations to discuss foreign policy planning of the foreign ministries of the CIS member states took place by video link on 13 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

Taking part in the video-conference were representatives of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and the CIS Executive Committee. Representatives of Azerbaijan and Moldova participated in the meeting as observers.

The diplomats exchanged views on the situation around the world and its impact on the processes going on in the CIS space. They pointed to the similarity of approaches to assessing the international situation and discussed national approaches to and practices of strategic and foreign policy planning in their countries, as well as the development of doctrinal and conceptual documents in this area.

In addition, the meeting discussed international law juxtaposed to the concept of the rules-based order. The parties noted that the establishment of a multi-polar world order remains the main international trend. This is a natural process that makes the system of international relations more robust. According to the diplomats, a multi-polar system should rely on mutually beneficial multilateral cooperation based on the international rule of law with the central coordinating role of the UN. This system should also respect cultural and civilizational diversity of the contemporary world.

At the end of the video-conference, the participants of the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation.
