CEC head comments on possible amendments to Belarus' election legislation

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Chairperson of Belarus' Central Election Commission Lidia Yermoshina commented on the prospects of introducing amendments to the country's election legislation as she talked to the media on 23 February, BelTA has learned.

The decision will be taken by the subject of the legislative initiative, i.e. the head of state or the parliament. “Perhaps, some amendments will be introduced. There are some proposals,” said Lidia Yermoshina.

At the moment, the CEC does not intend to draw up any methodological clarifications to election commissions. “We need to see where we are moving, and whether the instruction to amend the election legislation will be given,” she noted.

Lidia Yermoshina said she does not think the next local elections in four years will be held by the same rules. “Changes to the law will be certainly made,” the head of the CEC said.
