Catalonia's infrastructure and transport minister to visit Minsk

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) – Infrastructure and Transport Minister of Spain's Catalonia Isidre Gavin I Walls will visit Minsk on 30-31 January, BelTA learned from the Belarusian embassy in Spain.

“This is the first visit of such a level to Belarus since the establishment of diplomatic relations. After the Belarusian embassy was opened in Madrid in 2018, Belarus expanded trade and economic cooperation with key regions of Spain,” the diplomatic mission said.

The delegation led by the infrastructure and transport minister is set to discuss possible supplies of Belarusian electric buses to Catalonia with Belkommunmash Director General Vladimir Korol. The talks with the Minsk City Hall officials will focus on inter-regional cooperation. The Spanish delegation is also set to meet with Belavia representatives to offer preferential fares for flights to Catalan cities from Minsk. “Belavia performs regular flights on the route Minsk-Barcelona-Minsk all year round. Plans are in place to launch another regular flight to Catalonia on the route Minsk-Reus-Minsk in 2020.

“The meeting of the delegation from Catalonia at the Development Bank is intended to consider bilateral projects. Business negotiations will be complemented by a meeting in the government at the level of Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko. The parties will discuss ways to further intensify trade and economic cooperation,” the Belarusian embassy said. “During a meeting at MAPID Company the parties will discuss possible participation of Belarusian specialists in Catalonia's housing construction projects.

The delegation from Catalonia will also meet with Valery Sadokho, Director of the National Center for Marketing at the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the participation of the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Province of Lleida and representatives of the Catalan Agency for Business Competitiveness (ACCIO).

Catalonia is one of the key trade and economic partners of Belarus in Spain. Belarusian prefabricated houses, linen fabrics and wood products are in demand in Catalonia. Mineral water and black caviar were first supplied in 2019.
