Candidates commended for good work during local election campaign in Belarus

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The teams of the candidates to the local councils of deputies did a good job during the election campaign, Chairperson of Belarus' Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina said in an interview with the STV channel, BelTA has learned.

“The local authorities did a good job. The team of candidates to the deputies did an even better job, better than usual. They organized many campaigning events, used the election funds,” Lidia Yermoshina noted.

The election commissions also worked well, the CEC head noted. “We have received virtually no complaints from the voters that they did not receive information materials. They complained about the insufficient volume of these materials. They would like to have more informion,” Lidia Yermoshina said. But the important thing is that voters were informed, the head the CEC said.

The turnout exceeded 77%. A total of 5,333,613 people cast their votes. According to the CEC head, such a high turnout does not come as a surprise. The elections in Belarus always demonstrate high turnouts. It is related with a good coverage in the media among other things.
