MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - The calls of the opposition for unsanctioned protests against the Belarusian-Russian integration is a provocation, member of the Council of the Republic Aleksei Neverov said in an interview with BelTA.

“All these calls to take to the square are just a provocation," he said. Aleksei Neverov noted that the organizers use far-fetched motives, made-up threats about the loss of sovereignty. “In fact, the negotiations to deepen the Belarusian-Russian integration are about the economy. No one talks about politics, much less of a merger between the two countries,” the senator said.

“In the run-up to the New Year it is not good to get people hyped up, to call to take to the streets or to the places hosting children's events thus endangering children... Those who organize such events should bear full responsibility for such calls,” the senator believes.

Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs of the House of Representatives Andrei Savinykh is convinced that these campaigns have nothing to do with the integration process and the talks between Russia and Belarus. The organizers of such campaigns pursue vested interests. “All these campaigns do not reflect the position of the people and the country, and are conducted by marginal public organizations, if they, of course, can be called public,” the MP said.
