Call to fully reopen common border for citizens of Belarus, Russia as soon as possible

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – It is necessary to lift all the restrictions on travels across the common border from citizens of Belarus and Russia as soon as possible. Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko made the relevant statement during the 58th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 7 July, BelTA has learned.

Vladimir Andreichenko stressed that citizens and economies of the two countries need life to get back to normal. “It is necessary to as promptly as possible restore transportation by road, by air, and by rail while unconditionally observing all the anti-epidemic requirements. It is necessary to lift all the restrictions from travels of Belarusians and Russians across the common border,” the MP believes.

“We can restore the normal work of our economies, adapt them to new challenges, and bolster their competitive ability only through joint efforts. From the point of view of parliamentarians we are talking about the equalization of the legal framework in the union and the prevention of contradictions in national laws,” the head of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament said. Vladimir Andreichenko described it as a fundamental area of work for commissions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

On the whole, according to Vladimir Andreichenko, Union State MPs are in favor of restoring face-to-face contacts at all levels as soon as possible. “It is necessary to start organizing the next session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and use it as the basis for the next session of the Supreme State Council. We've accumulated unused reserves virtually in all spheres of cooperation. And we have something to work on,” he concluded.
