Call on MPs to continue monitoring Belarus-Russia Union State Treaty

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) - The Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State should continue monitoring the Union State Treaty, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the closing session of the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

“We think it may desirable for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State to implement the initiatives of the Council of the Republic on the monitoring of the implementation of the Union State Treaty, to draw up a concept of convergence of the two countries' laws and to strengthen the role of the Union State Standing Committee,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

The speaker summed up the results of the session in part of the international activities of the Council of the Republic. In November Belarus' parliamentary delegation took part in the autumn activities of the CIS IPA. “The dialogue of the Council of the Republic with the Council of Europe has been gradually progressing. In September Minsk hosted a number of events on local governance and self-governance,” Mikhail Myasnikovich.

Belarus hosted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. The MPs signed a protocol establishing the subcommissions in innovations. In November, the speaker of the Council of the Republic visited the French Senate for the first time in the history of bilateral relations. The Belarusian speaker noted that both sides have set up the senate commissions on cooperation, approved their membership.

The cooperation agreements aimed at promoting permanent contacts between the parliaments were also signed during the visits of the delegations of Iran, Turkey and Egypt to Belarus.
