Call for joint efforts to achieve international security

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) - All countries should undertake joint efforts to ensure security in the world, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Estonia to Belarus Merike Kokajev said at the international workshop “International security and NATO in 2018” in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

The Estonian diplomatic mission is currently the NATO contact point embassy in Belarus. Therefore, Merike Kokajev focused on the NATO principles, taking into account the current situation in the world.

For his part, Miko Haljas, Director of the Division for Security Policy and Transatlantic Relations at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed the view that Europe has built a good security architecture. “Even those, who may not wish it, do respect it,” he said.

Miko Haljas said that “a strong order based on adherence to international agreements by all parties” is very important for such a small state like Estonia. He drew attention to the fact that NATO has actively cooperated with the European Union, the United Nations.

Miko Haljas also noted that counter-terrorism and cybersecurity have been increasingly important issues for NATO. “We should all contribute to strengthening security,” he said.
