Call for closer industrial cooperation in CIS, mutual recognition of documents of migrant workers

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev voiced a number of proposals on cooperation in the CIS at the CIS summit on 18 December, BelTA has learned.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that Uzbekistan sees the CIS as an important and effective platform for practical partnership in all areas. “Today we are witnessing a complex process of a new world order taking shape, increasing contradictions and uncertainty in the world," he said. The situation, he said, is exacerbated by the pandemic, the consequences of which are global. "We are living in a new reality and we must take it into account. I am convinced that the use of the huge potential of the CIS, consolidation of our efforts, further strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation will help us find the best ways out of this crisis," the Uzbekistan president said.

As a way to strengthen cooperation, he proposed to expand the use of green corridors between the CIS countries, to adopt road maps on e-commerce, to develop a comprehensive program of industrial cooperation (create joint clusters in agriculture, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, light and food industries, pharmaceuticals).

Uzbekistan also advocates the early resumption of air traffic in the CIS, recognition, on a reciprocal basis, of the documents of migrant workers and the adoption of a program of cooperation on labor migration issues.

The Uzbekistan leader recalled that the CIS will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding in 2021. In this regard, he highlighted the huge creative potential of the CIS and the importance of the organization. “If we intensify our cooperation in the light of the issues discussed today, we can approach the anniversary date with great results that will contribute to the progress and further prosperity of our countries,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
