Call for bolstering Shanghai Cooperation Organization's potential

BISHKEK, 14 June (BelTA) – It is necessary to further enhance the potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev made the relevant statement during the session of the SCO Heads of State Council in Bishkek on 14 June, BelTA has learned.

The Kazakhstan president said: “In my opinion, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is one of the most effective and respected international associations. Although it is young, it boasts a number of achievements.”

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke in favor of expanding and establishing full-format relations between the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and key multilateral bodies in Eurasia, in favor of overcoming bloc perception stereotypes. “The Eurasian Economic Union, ASEAN, BRICS, and the European Union can be reliable partners for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev believes.

The Kazakhstan president also mentioned the need to more effectively use the huge economic potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. It is also necessary to form a pool of modern technological clusters in the organization's space. It is necessary to advance matters of digitization and information and communications technologies.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev drew attention to the need to ensure security in the region in various aspects and to the importance of providing comprehensive support to resolving these problems in conditions of global tension and regional conflicts.
