Belarus deposits with WIPO instrument of accession to Hague Agreement

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, who is on a working visit to Switzerland, has met with WIPO Director General Daren Tang to deposit an instrument of accession to the Hague Agreement on International Registration of Industrial Designs, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Joining the third international system of intellectual property registration is aimed at improving the business climate, promoting the commercialization of innovative products and making the country most attractive for foreign investors," the minister said.

Belarus has joined the Geneva Act on legal protection of industrial designs, BelTA informed earlier with reference with the State Committee on Science and Technology.

The Geneva Act governs the international system of registration and legal protection of industrial designs (design of products). Currently, the Geneva Act unites 65 states, including Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and others. Thus it will be easier for Belarusian applicants to obtain legal protection of industrial designs and keep patents on them in force simultaneously in all states participating in the Geneva Act.

Belarusian applicants will also be able to reduce expenses on obtaining legal protection of their industrial design simultaneously in several member states.

Vladimir Makei also met with WHO Director General Dr Tedros in Geneva. The parties hailed the long-term and programmatic nature of cooperation between Belarus and WHO across a wide range of areas.
