Belarusian MP to attend IPU Assembly in Indonesia

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) - The 144th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in Nusa Dua, the Republic of Indonesia from March 20 to 24. It will be attended by Chairman of the Standing Commission on Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic Sergei Rachkov, who is a member of the Bureau of the IPU Standing Committee on Peace and International Security Affairs and the IPU High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of Belarusian Parliament.

The plenary sessions will discuss the theme “Getting to zero: Mobilizing parliaments to act on climate change". All IPU statutory bodies, including the Governing Council, Standing Committees, and other working structures will convene during this Assembly.

The Belarusian MP will convey Belarus' position on the overall theme of the general debate, on the implementation of previously adopted resolutions and outcome documents of the Assembly, and will speak on ways of ensuring security and stability in the Eastern European region, a global ban on nuclear tests, countering international terrorism.

The delegates will adopt resolutions on the emergency item and on the subject item taken up by the Standing Committee on Peace and International Security entitled “Rethinking and reframing the approach to peace processes with a view to fostering lasting peace” and by the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development entitled “Leveraging Information and Communication Technology as an enabler for the education sector, including in times of pandemic”.
